SUNSHINE

In the midst of yesterday's dreery, rainy day, a little ray of sunshine peeked through . . . and it was sweet little E. I feel so lucky to have photographed this most loved little one on his one week "birthday." Mom and Dad are understandably over the moon!  Thank you, D. and P.! Here are just a few images from yesterday. Prepare to swoon over the cuteness!

IN THE SPRING A YOUNG MAN'S FANCY LIGHTLY TURNS TO THOUGHTS OF LOVE

. . . and my fancy turns to--what else?--spring clothes!!!  Do you like how I tied Alfred Lord Tennyson and 21st-century consumerism up into a tidy little comparison there? Two of my great loves--ha ha!

And where else to go for shopping but the store with the most well-edited selection of clothing for your little one? I mean Genes, of course! The Wayne location has long been one of my favorite places to shop (and to send clients to shop!).  You can't go wrong and--for moms of boys--this is a store where selections for your little guy are fabulous.  No marginalization amongst a sea of pink here. ;)

What was in the brown paper bag, you inquire?  Why a gorgeous Ella Moss dress in a color combo that was entirely irresistable.  There may have been a few more things in the bag.  I plead the fifth.

My model, thankfully, indulged me and out we went for a walk around the neighborhood in the new dress. Her requirement: that SHE was to style her own model and take a photo at the end.  I can live with that. :)

So without further ado (and with a new 'do to boot), here's my sweet girl.

Finally, the model rests.  But then she remembers . . . I need to style MY model. "Put the camera around my neck, Mommy," she said.  And here's the result. :) I go on the record as stating I disapprove of the photographer's mix of tungsten and natural light, but I applaud her committment to her vision. :)

FABULOUS FRIDAY

I had a wonderful opportunity on Friday to mentor an up-and-coming Connecticut children's photographer and visit with some of my most adorable (and frequent! love them!) clients. It was still a bit chilly out so we concentrated on something I don't see discussed or taught very often--how to do a shoot entirely indoors, on location.  You need to be ready for anything, thinking on your toes and finding inspiration as you go along. While I was not the official photographer of the day and more concerned with my mentee getting in on the action, I did grab a few quick shots for mom, as well as snaps of the area we shot in.  Thank you, H.!  We also took a quick trip around the house to take some snaps of my images--how lucky am I to have my photographs as treasured artwork in someone's home?  I love my job!!!

As always, photographers who have an interest in possible future mentorship or workshop opportunities should drop me a line.  I look forward to hearing from you!

FEATURED

Hurray! The site update is complete, and I'm sure I will be caught up in that regard for, oh, at least a week. :)  There's a new featured session that was one of my recent favorites.  A one year old.  In December. A session that took place almost entirely indoors. With natural light. I know the photographers out there are saying, "Why, Joyce, why? Do you just LIKE to be terrified?"  But au contraire, what a delightful session it was!!  So much so that, though I had a more recent session in mind to feature next, I just had to choose this one instead when I began combing through files a few minutes ago.  Just click the photo below to see the highlights! Loved the M. family and adorable S.!!

By the way, don't you ADORE this Bla Bla mobile?  I loved it, even moreso since one of the first gifts I received as an expectant mother was a Bla Bla kitty (which, I confess, I love more than my daughter does!).

I'll be back again soon.  The recent heatwave (and all the new client e-mails!) has reminded me that, yes, spring is just around the corner!  I've been shopping and found all sorts of small fry wardrobe goodness that I'd love to share on the blog.  Next time!

IS THERE ANYTHING BETTER?

I'm working my way through the to do lists I've had on my desk, in my iCal, in my mind . . . for what seems like forever.  With each task completed, e-mail answered, brainstorming notepad filled, I feel better.  Lighter.  Ahhh!  Or maybe it's just the warm weather--either way, it's a great week!  A great month!  Come on, spring!

One task on the to do list that I crossed off late last night?  Updating the website!  I am usually crazy fast about updating my site, but with last year's busy holiday season it did not come to pass.  Lots of fresh images on the site, and soon there'll be a new featured session to go with them.  Check them out here or click on the photo below. Don't you know I did a little leap for joy (on the inside of course, while retaining my cool professional exterior, lol) when I saw this little one's polka dot ensemble?

Also, thank you to all of the photographers who sent guesses about what looks to be the next big announcement here ;) and kind e-mails.  You rock!!  If you'd like to be kept in the know, just shoot me an e-mail by clicking here.  Until next time!!
