April 26th Cherry Blossom Sessions ~ Three Spots Remaining

Great news! Cherry Blossom Sessions will be held on Sunday, April 26th, in the early morning and late afternoon hours. These sessions will take place between the Main Line and Center City and will be short and sweet--about 10-15 minutes. We'll photograph under the lush canopy of the cherry blossoms and capture a few "less pink" images as well if desired.

Yesterday registration opened up to those who expressed interest earlier in the week. Three spots remain. To reserve your spot, please visit the registration page or send me an e-mail at joyce@joycesmithphoto.com .

These special sessions are $100 with all other prints/products decided once you view your images.

Once you've reserved, I will be in touch regarding your choice of time. Times will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hope to see you there!

Happy Spring!

Joyce

p.s. when you see the cherry blossoms that are blooming now, don't panic that "our" blossoms will be past their prime--they are always the last of the cherry trees to bloom (and the best!!)

p.p.s. At the conclusion of last year's shore sessions, I was told by several clients "You HAVE to do this every year!!" I'm planning to be down the shore in early August. Potentially interested in a session? Please let me know and I'll make sure you're kept in the know!

In January I had the pleasure of photographing the wonderful Miss S. for a feature article in the May/June issue of American Girl magazine. She could not have been lovelier or more talented. To read more about her, visit newsstands now or check out the single issue available here.

Sadly, this opportunity did not come bundled with a shopping spree in the American Girl store.  You know, for my 10-year-old.  Not for me. Yes, that's right. #Istillbrushtheirhair #sorrynotsorry

Prospective clients often ask me what their portrait session will be like.  What they are really asking, 99% of the time, is "Joyce, how on earth does this EVER work?" They are often convinced that their home is not quite decorated exquisitely enough, that the wardrobe selected not fashionable enough, that they should have lost the extra pounds (you know, the ones only they notice! ;) ) and, most of all, that their children will never cooperate.

Every client feels this way, but they don't know what I know: 1) Their family is perfectly imperfect, just the way they are at this moment in time and 2) After almost ten years as a portrait photographer, I have more than a few tricks up my sleeve to capture families beautifully. Perhaps even more importantly, one of my strengths is being able to accomplish all that I do in a session in the most relaxed yet expedient manner. While we are never rushed, I also realize that the experience of the session is as important as the results. We want the kids to have fun.  Dare we say it, we even want Dad to have fun.

The number one comment I hear from fathers at the end of a session is "Wow, that was so much easier than I thought!"

The number one comment I hear from mothers at the end of a session is, "Wow, I'm not sure they behaved enough.  Did we get anything?"

The number one comment I hear from both parents after viewing the images is "WHEN did this happen, HOW did you do it, and HOW will we ever decide?"

I'd love to share a session spotlight from January--yes, January, when there was still snow on the ground!  We had a wonderful morning together--so much so that I found myself with 73 images for this family's gallery. Just to make sure I'm not giving myself too much credit for my ability to work quickly, I checked the time stamp on the images.  Time elapsed from first to last image? 59 minutes.  Dads of Philadelphia and the Main Line, rejoice!  :)

If you're thinking of a session for spring or summer, simply send me a quick e-mail and we'll make a plan to capture your family beautifully (and painlessly!).

A big thank you to the G. family. It is always a pleasure photographing their exuberant, full-of-life-and-love family. Click through to see them all!

Have you visited the website lately?  If so, you might find that some of my favorite images from 2014 have magically appeared there. There might have been some swooning involved. Are your favorites there?

How long ago was it when I photographed the B. family for the first time?  Hmmm . . . I can tell you there were only two children, and they were little!  How wonderful it has been to watch them grow over the years.

I love each and every one of these and the roughly million more we captured that day.  I also have to laugh at the little sister C's eye roll and--even better--her dismay at finding one brother under her bed.  Don't you hate it when that happens?

Thank you again, B. family!  You are the best!!

Remember that part where I caught up and got most of 2014 sessions blogged?  And then I just dropped off the face of the earth again?

Well, I am back!  It has been a surprisingly busy winter (hurray!  thank you!) and spring is in full swing at last.  If you're thinking of a spring session, now is the time to reserve one before we are full.

Now, back to January.  :)

I was so happy to see this family again.  It was ultimately a snowy day, but we had a beautiful session.  Thank you so much, B. family!  I feel like it was yesterday that you and your two pups came to the studio for a maternity session.  I am like a broken record, but where does the time go?  It was a treat to photography beautiful Miss A. again!

An adorable one year old who stopped by the studio Tuesday!  His session began like just about every Joyce Smith Photography session does--with concerns about how it would all proceed and if our star would be in a good mood.  Think I won him over? :)

So great to meet you, N.!  Here's a tiny sneak peek to tide you over until all of your images are ready.  Thank you!

Oops!  I thought the blog was caught up through the end of 2014 at last, but I missed one.  What a wonderful session this was to end the year; so lovely to see this family once again, this time in their new home.  Thank you again!

Next up . . . 2015. Yay!

Thinking of a spring or summer session this year?  The calendar is now open for booking.  See you soon!

After this post, we will be officially caught up on 2014 blogging.  And hey, it's only March 2015.  Not bad!!  :)

Did you know an angel visited the studio last fall?  She brought her adorable brother as well.  I still remember our first session last spring amid the beautiful cherry blossom trees at their home and I loved seeing them again.  Many thanks, M. family!  I could not be more delighted to document your family.
